The McLean Orchestra's 36th season kicks off with a celebration of wind instruments featuring Principal Clarinetist Russell Gross.

Lollapalooza, John Adams

American minimalist composer John Adams composed this piece based on the rhythm of the word "lollapalooza" in 1995. The piece was composed as a fortieth birthday present to the famous conductor Simon Rattle.

Clarinet Concerto in A Major, Wolfgang Mozart

Soloist Russell Gross, Clarinet

This "autumnal" piece was Mozart's final completed purely instrumental composition. Clarinet Concerto in A Major is notable for its delicate interplay between clarinet soloist and orchestra. Principal Clarinetist, Russell Gross has been with the McLean Orchestra for 18 seasons and is a clarinetist with the United States Navy Band in Washington, D.C. where he also serves as Enlisted Conductor for the Concert Band.

Scheherazade, Rimsky-Korsakov

This symphonic suite is based on The Book of One Thousand and One Nights. Typical of Russian music and Rimsky-Korsakov, the piece combines dazzling, colorful orchestration with an interest in the east, which figures greatly in the history of Imperial Russia.
