Celebrate the start of the holiday season with the McLean Orchestra. Children and adults alike will be treated to a traditional mix of holiday favorites and special guest performers. Special abbreviated children's matinee will take place on Sunday with physical comedian Tim Marrone.
Hansel and Gretal Overture, Engelbert Humperdinck
Humperdinck himself describes this piece as a fairy opera. The idea for the opera was proposed by Humperdinck's sister who requested that her brother write music for songs she had written for her children for Christmas based on the story Hansel and Gretal.
"Winter" from the Seasons, Alexander Glazunov
Glazunov uses instrumental timbres such as trilling flutes, mellow horns, and stratospheric violins to depict the sounds of frost, ice, hail, and snow. Frost takes the form of a vigorous Polonaise, ice is presented by a short dance between the violas and clarinets, hail takes the form of a scherzo, and snow is depicted by a waltz.
Concert will also feature additional holiday favorites! |
