Aileen Pisciotta is President of the McLean Orchestra. She became involved with the McLean Orchestra through her son, who has been a cellist with the McLean Youth Orchestra for the past five years. Acting first as Board Appointed Counsel, she was swiftly tapped for leadership. In the past year she has already innovated several programs for the Orchestra, including a the first “MYO Rocks!” concert featuring both classical music and classic rock tunes for teen outreach, unique “Instrumental to Business” events tailored to serve the business community, and the new “Forte Leadership Circle” to acknowledge local leaders who strongly support the Orchestra. Aileen reminds us that the McLean Orchestra is more than musicians on a stage, and that its most important role is to provide great music “where you live,” geographically, emotionally and socially. Under Aileen’s leadership, we will see much more of the McLean Orchestra and McLean Youth Orchestra animating life in many ways and venues in McLean and surrounding communities.
Just as she is her putting stamp as a “social entrepreneur” on the McLean Orchestra, Aileen is equally busy lending her creative energy to two other non-profit ventures. An amateur cellist herself, she is a founding Board Member of Cellospeak, Inc. (www.cellospeak.org), a Reston based organization founded by her mother, Eastman-trained cellist Dorothy Amarandos. Cellospeak provides educational programs and ensemble performance workshops for adult amateur cellists from all across the country. Aileen is also the founder and Chair of IMPOWR (International Models Project on Women’s Rights) (www.impowr.org), a wiki-like database project funded by a grant from the American Bar Association Enterprise Fund. IMPOWR is establishing a globally collaborative information resource on laws and law reform projects concerning women’s rights around the world. Aileen leads over 50 IMPOWR volunteers and has forged key partnerships with the Library of Congress, Thomson Reuters Foundation and the Organization of American States. Her work with IMPOWR earned her a Human Rights Award conferred last December by the United Nations Association of the National Capital Area.
By day, Aileen is a successful business attorney in private practice with the Herndon-based law firm Executive Counsel, PLC (www.exec-counsel.com). She acts as an outsourced general counsel for telecom and technology companies and government contractors, helping senior executives build company value by avoiding legal risk. Over her professional career she has been in-house General Counsel for a privately owned international cellular company, a Division Chief in the Federal Communications Commission’s International Bureau, a Partner at Kelley Drye & Warren and Of Counsel at Latham & Watkins. With a significant focus on international matters, she has worked in many countries in South and Central America, the Caribbean and Asia.
