MCLEAN YOUTH ORCHESTRA
The McLean Orchestra established the McLean Youth Orchestra (MYO) in
1983. Under
the direction of Pauline B. Anderson, MYO is designed for young musicians
between the ages of 12 and 18 and affords serious music students the opportunity
to play in an accomplished orchestra while developing their musical skills. Three
major concerts are presented each year at various area concert halls. Additional
concerts may be given by small ensembles upon invitation.
In addition
to presenting concerts with talented guest artists, there are social
opportunities within the membership and exchanges with other young musicians. Senior
members often hold principal chairs in their high school orchestras and
may be recommended to apply for an audition with the McLean Orchestra. A
competition is held annually for those members able to play at the senior
concerto level. First
and second places are awarded cash prizes.
MYO’s program has been carefully planned to allow students to participate
in concerts and rehearsals without conflicts with their own school orchestra
programs. Weekly rehearsals and monthly sectional coaching provide an
opportunity for a rich musical experience for our talented youngsters.
