MYO Music Director
Pauline (Tina) Anderson is now in her nineteenth year as director of
the McLean Youth Orchestra (MYO). She inspires the group with her understanding
of young people and her enthusiasm for music, and produces outstanding
musical performances while exhibiting a warm and caring interest for
each player. Her high artistic goals and the dedication of her young
musicians have resulted in the fine reputation for excellence that the
MYO enjoys today.
Ms. Anderson earned a Bachelor of Music in strings and voice (cum laude)
and a Master of Music in music education from Catholic University, a
diploma in voice performance from Rice University, and studied church
music at Shenandoah Conservatory of Music. She has completed a master’s
degree in conducting at Catholic University. She also holds a special
certification in Suzuki Education. Ms. Anderson has taught in area public,
parochial, and private schools and has been the conductor of the Primo
Orchestra and the Youth Orchestra of Prince William County. She served
as music chairman of the Arts Club of Washington for six years. She maintains
a private teaching studio in Springfield, Virginia.
Ms. Anderson is also a performing artist. She is the founding member
of Musikfest Players, a professional string quartet, has performed with
several orchestras (including the Fairfax Symphony Orchestra), and has
recorded for the Williamsburg Collection. Ms. Anderson was appointed
in 2001 to a three-year term on the youth division board of the American
Symphony Orchestra League. Other honors awarded Ms. Anderson include
Who’s Who in American Women 1980-81. She was knighted Dame Pauline
Anderson, College of Preachers, Washington National Cathedral, in 1986.
In 2003 she received a national education award from The People to People
Project for her work in helping to develop youth orchestras in Haiti,
Colombia, Honduras and Peru.
