Designed for young musicians between the ages of 12
and 18, the McLean Youth Orchestra (MYO) offers serious music students
the opportunity to play in an accomplished orchestra while developing
their musical skills. An annual concerto competition allows students
to win cash prizes to further their music education. Winners of the
competition are rewarded with a recital at the historic Lyceum in
Old Town Alexandria. Exposed to a repertoire that challenges and enhances
their abilities, MYO members learn from and play with talented guest
artists from all over the metropolitan area. MYO also has a strong
international focus, helping students to expand their global musical
experiences through exchange programs. In the past MYO has either
traveled to Japan or hosted musicians from its “sister”
youth orchestra from Chiba, Japan. In addition, students participating
in ensembles this year will be granted college credit through Northern
Virginia Community College.
The McLean Youth Orchestra is a program of the McLean
Orchestra.
